This map of food deserts in Chicago was produced by the National Center for Public Research. A food desert is an area in which residents have few or no mainstream groceries (but perhaps an abundance of fast-food vendors) within a close distance. This research was presented as part of a panel discussion about food distribution at the FamilyFarmed Expo at the Chicago Cultural Center on November 22.
